Before Permanent Makeup Instructions & Eligibility
(Brows • Lips • Eyeliner)
Permanent makeup is a cosmetic tattoo procedure. To ensure the best results and your safety, please read and follow these guidelines.
Who Cannot Receive Permanent Makeup
Permanent makeup is not recommended for individuals who:
• Are under 18 years old
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have active skin conditions at or near the procedure site (eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, rash, sunburn, acne flare-ups)
• Are prone to keloid scarring
• Have uncontrolled diabetes or certain autoimmune disorders (these can affect healing and pigment retention)
• Are currently undergoing chemotherapy or radiation (doctor’s clearance required)
• Have bleeding disorders or are taking blood-thinning medications (including Coumadin/Warfarin)
• Are on Accutane (Isotretinoin) or have taken it in the past 12 months
• Have had Botox, dermal fillers, chemical peels, microneedling, or laser treatments near the treatment area in the last 2–4 weeks
• Have active cold sores (herpes simplex virus) for lip procedures (antiviral medication is recommended prior to lip tattooing if you are prone to outbreaks)
• Are currently taking antibiotics for an active infection
• Have a history of severe allergic reactions to pigments, lidocaine, epinephrine, or topical anesthetics
Before Your Appointment
Follow these steps to prepare for the best results:
• Avoid alcohol and caffeine for at least 24 hours prior (they thin the blood and may increase bleeding).
• Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, or other blood thinners for 24 hours (unless prescribed by your doctor).
• Avoid tanning, sunburn, or chemical peels 1 week before your procedure.
• No Botox, fillers, microneedling, or facials within 2–4 weeks of your appointment.
• Do not wax, tweeze, or tint brows 48 hours before brow procedures.
• Discontinue retinols, glycolic acid, or acne treatments near the procedure area for at least 1 week before.
• If receiving lip tattooing and prone to cold sores: contact your doctor for an antiviral prescription (e.g., Valtrex, Acyclovir) and begin medication 2–3 days before.
• Arrive with a clean, makeup-free face.
Important Notes
• Some medical conditions and medications can affect healing and pigment retention. You may require additional sessions to achieve desired results.
• Healing is different for everyone — final results are not immediate.
• A follow-up “perfecting session” is required 4-6 weeks after your initial procedure.
These steps will ensure you are a good candidate and fully prepared for your permanent makeup procedure.
